How Men Should Give a Wedding Toast

All three key men of the wedding; groom, best man, and father of the bride; are required to give at least a toast. Be prepared. Speeches and toasts are comprised of three parts: The words of the speech, how you say them, and your body language. Research shows that your body language and how you say it is more important that the words that you say. So, if you are welcoming Tom into the family, but your body and voice intonations are saying I hope to hell he keeps away from me, the audience will know what you really meant. To give a successful speech or toast, you need eye contact, body language and voice control.

Good eye contact translates into sincerity. Look individual listeners in the eye. Hold eye contact and then move on to another listener. Practice your speech standing up and in front of a mirror since you will be standing when you give it at the wedding. If you don’t practice your toast while standing, you’ll be surprised at how fast the blood can drain out of your system when you stand.
